After the Shoot
DEVELOPING AND PRINTING For a color digital session, Alyssa's images are color corrected and printed at the highest quality professional digital lab. For a black and white film session, Alyssa works with traditional film photography and printing techniques. She collaborates with one of Boston’s few Master printers to produce finished portraits of archival quality. Black and white prints made from film have tonal depth unequaled by even the most advanced digital photography. Your film is individually hand processed and treated to the highest archival standards. And your negatives are then custom printed in a darkroom on one of the following papers: Resin Coated Paper: Resin coated paper (RC) is coated with plastic and then the silver-gelatin emulsion is then coated onto the plastic. This type of paper and processing is less expensive and recommended for holiday cards, birth announcements or small "gift prints". The image could fade over time and the plastic coating may eventually become brittle and crack. Fiber-Based Paper: This is the highest quality photography paper available. Prints on fiber-based paper must be made directly from a film negative, and cannot be made from a digital file nor matched by printing a digital file in any other medium. Fiber-based paper can produce prints of great beauty, subtlety, elegance and permanence. Placed side by side with an RC print, the fiber print will show a greater richness and depth of tonality and detail in shadows. For this reason, fiber-based paper is a key element of film photography’s unique qualities. Most museum photography prints are printed on this type of paper. With proper care, fiber-based papers can last for hundreds of years without fading or cracking.
